Maria grew up in Cartagena, Colombia and moved to Florida when she was 7 years old. She attended The George Washington University and earned her Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs and a minor in History. During her time at GWU, she spent two semesters abroad in Cameroon and Colombia and conducted research on the effects of international development in Haiti. She volunteered with the Latin American Youth Center in D.C, tutoring recent immigrant students in high schools and has interned in World Learning’s Business Development Unit. Maria is interested in urban/rural planning and the connection between unbalanced development, security, and migration. For now she looks forward to being in Central Florida and assisting her community. During her free time, Maria likes to read, run, and find new music.
